Wabasso FCA Huddle Visit

Thursday morning I got the chance to speak at Wabasso FCA. You’ll never guess what I was speaking about…. CAMP!!!!!!! This time Zach and Leah, two of my fellow Marshall huddle leaders, came with!! The Wabasso Huddle was so amazing!!! They are a small school but they have such a big group with even bigger hearts for the Lord. Also they served probably some of the best donuts I’ve ever had in my life.

Before we started two of the Wabasso kids passed around a notecard and a pencil to all the kids. They told us to write prayer requests on the card and they would put it into a prayer locker. I had no idea what this meant but I am always up for new experiences so I wrote my prayers down and was led outside of the library to the locker. It was a brightly decorated locker for prayer requests. Everything is completely anonymous and if anyone needs anything they can just slip a prayer into the locker.

We started off with the usual icebreaker, Pictionary. If I remember right we had them draw Joseph’s rainbow coat, Jonah and the whale, and Jesus rising from the tomb. After that Leah opened in prayer. Then we started talking about camp! Robin started off with talking about the SWMN Sports Clinic. She encouraged all the seventh and eighth graders to go and be examples to the younger campers. We explained how you get sorted into huddles with kids in your sport and around your age and have huddle leaders who walk with you throughout the day.

Then we got to dive into what going to a national camp was like. Zach, Leah, and I all went to the Lake Junaluska Leadership Camp in North Carolina this summer. Zach opened up about how it was where he met Jesus and his life was forever changed after that. At camp you are surrounded by people who love Jesus and want to grow closer with him. One of our main points we spoke on was that camp puts you in uncomfortable situations that allow you to grow. I can personally testify to this. Before Leadership Camp I was TERRIFIED to pray out loud. If I ever had to pray at FCA I would rehearse my prayer in the shower the night before and in the mirror the morning of to make sure it was perfect. One of the first nights we were in NC the camp director, Scott, asked who wanted to pray. No one volunteered and so he handed the microphone to me and said that I could do it. I was absolutely terrified. I had to pray on spot in a room of 100 people. YIKES. But I did it! and it helped me grow so much! Now I volunteer to pray out loud and I never would’ve been able to grow to where I am now without being put in those uncomfortable situations!

I also got to see my lovely friend Emily who is going to be a leader for the Wabasso Huddle next year!! So exciting!! She closed us out with a lovely prayer and we trekked out into the snow to go home.

So once again GO TO CAMP!!!!!! Feel free to reach out if you want to sign up or be a huddle leader!!!!!!!!
